Jorhat, Nov 5: Fans of the esteemed Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg will soon have the opportunity to enjoy their iconic song lyrics in various languages.
During a commemorative event honoring the 14th death anniversary of Dr. Hazarika, Dr. Basanta Kumar Goswami, President of Asam Sahitya Sabha, announced that the Sabha is set to release a collection of songs from these two musical icons as a tribute to their remarkable contributions to music and literature.
“All songs by Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg will be translated into Assamese and English. The compilation titled Bhupendra Sangeet is already finished and will soon be available in English and Hindi as well,” Dr. Goswami stated.
He mentioned that the project aims to be completed by 2027, marking a significant achievement in Assam’s cultural and literary landscape.
Dr. Goswami emphasized the importance of art and culture in fostering human values, stating, “If a society's cultural trajectory does not advance, true social equality will remain elusive. An artist's mission is to enlighten the world through creativity and wisdom, a vision shared by Zubeen Garg and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.”
The event attracted thousands of fans who paid tribute to the Sudhakantha by performing his timeless songs.
Among the attendees were Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami, who celebrated the life and legacy of the legendary artist.
“I am genuinely pleased to participate in this event today. The atmosphere is filled with tranquility and emotion. Dr. Bhupen Hazarika will forever hold a place in our hearts,” expressed Minister Bora.
